Portland State University
Portland State University (PSU) offers a wide array of educational directions, preparing its students to go out and change the world.
PSU's academic programs are made to suit every student's needs – whether they pursue a bachelor's or master's decree, or even if they want to extend their studies indefinitely.
Portland's bachelor's programs are designed to combine hands-on learning with rigorous classroom work. Their heralded University Studies strive to create well-rounded individuals with strong communication and critical thinking skills and a clear sense of their role in society and humanity. University Studies provides students with integrated, connected learning experiences that lay the foundation for lifelong intellectual development.
Extending through all four years, this program teaches students how to think critically, communicate effectively, and gain a broad awareness of the human experience to instill a deep sense of responsibility to themselves and their community. Universities in Oregon and across the country have modeled their programs after PSU's, and foundations such as W. K. Kellogg and the Pew Charitable Trusts have recognized the work of the University Studies faculty and administrative leaders.
For the more dedicated students, there is the University Honors Program. All these courses feature intensive reading, writing and research. The University Honor students have the opportunity to live and study among other high-achieving students. The University Honors Program engages Portland State's motto, "Let Knowledge Serve the City".
Portland State University's Graduate programs promise a rich experience for passionate individuals. Research from their graduate programs regularly breaks new ground, earning attention nationwide and drawing highly qualified students to more than 70 master's programs, more than 30 graduate certificate programs, and 18 doctoral programs. Portland State offers a multitude of educational and research opportunities in an urban setting with a diverse student body and faculty.
The Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) is committed to student success by serving as the principal resource for students, faculty, and staff regarding graduate certificate and degree requirements, degree status, petition procedures, thesis and dissertation preparation, final oral examinations, eligibility of graduate assistants, and academic standing. The OGS supports graduate programs in the development of new curricular proposals and serves as an advocate for graduate education on campus and in the community. It partners with academic programs and other offices on campus to recruit a diverse graduate student population and to meet the needs of students in the pursuit of academic and career goals.
As for the Lifelong Learning extended programs, they are offered to the students who know that education doesn't end at graduation. The School of Extended Studies is Portland's premier provider of lifelong learning opportunities for local communities, the region and the state.
